The answer would appear to be riboflavin or B2.

I’ve wondered about this for a while, but you finally motivated me to look it up.

I think big doses of C do that too.

I’ve taken B-Complex vitamins did that. Very disconcerting until you realize it’s not harming anything…

That would be most multi-B vitamins. Why?

Whatever they give you for UTIs. Fun!

It’s excess riboflavin being excreted. Since most B-complex multivitamins include ribolflavin (as well as the one-a-day multivitamins that have all kinds of stuff), you’ll get bright yellow urine after taking them.

Because my pee is bright yellow!

Also, I’d heard that it was some vitamin, but I couldn’t remember which one.

Aaaand a question like that brings out the commenters. I mean, just mention a bodily fluid, and Lauren shows up.

Funny, I’d've thought it’d be beta carotine (which is a precursor to A) but it’s apparently a waste product of riboflavin, which (hi, Jen!) is indeed B2.

However, if you are taking megadoses, which it sounds as if you are if this is happening, you need to ramp up your water consumption and check your multis for fat-soluble vitamins, just in case. Overdosing A and D is A Very Bad Thing.

“However, if you are taking megadoses, which it sounds as if you are if this is happening,”

That happens to me just from taking my multivitamin at night, no megadoses necessary.

I get that from my once-a-day multivitamin. As long as my pee’s still yellow, I’m good. And that anti-spasm stuff you get for UTI’s always turned my pee deep orange, which would’ve been really alarming if the nurse hadn’t warned me about that side effect beforehand.

If your pee is anything other than very light, pale yellow or clear, you should probably drink more water.

I just wanted to add that many vitamin/supplement manufacturers (particularly poorer quality) add B2 to the coating on their tablets so you’ll think they are breaking down in your gut and you are absorbing all the nutrients (see how radio-active yellow my urine is!), when they probably just going right through you more or less intact. I suppose at least you are getting your B’s…
