Had a mega-expensive wedding dress (which I rented, so it wasn't mega-expensive for me) and white satin Chinese Laundrey platform sandals which were on sale for $20. Good call on the dress. It’s very adaptable and you’ll get a lot of use out of it. Plus if it make you feel good, it’s worth it.

When I worked at Lord & Taylor (north of Boston), the dress department stocked Tadashi pieces. And they were pricey, but they do get marked down. If you're not adverse to dept. store shopping, check out the sales (L & T run regular ads in the big papers). You can do pretty well. Just catching up with you.
